President, prime minister mourn death of Quamruzzaman’s wife
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed deep shock at the death of Jahanara Zaman, wife of national leader AHM Quamruzzaman.
In a condolence message, the President prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In her message, the Prime Minister recalled her contributions with gratitude during the War of Liberation and the post-1975 period after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Jahanara Zaman died of cardiac arrest at her Gulshan residence here early Monday at the age of 84.
Jahanara, also mother of former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and president of Rajshahi city Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, had long been suffering from diabetes and old age complications.
AHM Qamaruzzaman, a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a popular leader of Rajshahi, was killed along with three other national leaders—Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain M Mansur Ali -- by some disgruntled army officers inside Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November in 1975.
