War crimes suspect Shamsuddoha dies
Dhaka: War crimes suspect of Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar Samsuddoha, who was arrested on 23 May on charge of committing crimes against humanity during the War of Independence, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
DMCH inspector Mozammel Huq said Samsuddoha, in his nineties, had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since 25 May in police custody due to old age complications and he breathed his last at about 2:20pm on Wednesday.
On 23 May, police in a drive arrested Shamsuddoha from Baradail village in Maheshkhali upazila of the Cox’s Bazar district.
On 21 May, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 issued a warrant for the arrest of 16 war crimes suspects of Cox’s Bazar district, including Samsuddoha, for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the War of Independence in 1971.
