Dhaka: A tourism businessman sustained minor bullet injuries as miscreants shot him during a mugging bid on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday.

The victim was Moniruzzaman Masud, 34, owner of ‘Tourism Window’.

Quoting witnesses, police said Masud along with one of his friends was going to Nilkhet from the TSC area on a motorbike.

When they reached the DU Teachers’ Club, four miscreants riding two motorcycles stopped their bike around 3pm, said officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique.

The gangsters fired gunshots targeting Masud and tried to snatch a bag from his pillion- riding friend but in vain as assistant sub-inspector Khairul of the same police station, who was present there, chased the miscreants, he said.

Masud escaped fatal injuries as the bullet hit his mobile phone set kept in his shirt’s pocket, the OC said, adding that he was given first aid at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
