Sylhet: A Dhaka court on Wednesday remanded a student of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology to police custody in connection with sexual harassment allegations.

Rifat Adnan Papan, a business administration student of the university, has reportedly harassed a female student.

Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Akhter Hossain said Papon was placed before the court on Wednesday and the judge sent him to custody.

Campus sources said Papan had a relationship with a female student of the SUST Economics Department for long which broke up recently.

On Sunday evening, Papan beat the girl with a sandal as she did not respond to his call while gossiping with her friends at the main gate on the campus at about 8:00pm.

Later, the female student submitted a written complaint to the acting proctor of the university against Papan for sexually harassing her on Monday.

Police arrested Papan on the university campus as per the request of the university administration on Tuesday.
