ACC arrests ex-panel mayor, shipbuilder on graft charges
Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday arrested a shipbuilder and a former panel mayor in separate graft cases.
An ACC team, led by its director Syed Iqbal Hossain, arrested owner of Northern Shipbuilder and Dockyard Monirul Islam Mollah from the city’s Mirpur area in connection with BASIC Bank loan scam, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
On September 21, 2015, the ACC filed a case against Mollah and others with Gulshan Police Station for allegedly swindling out over Tk 60 crore from BASIC Bank’s Gulshan branch.
ACC deputy director Toufiqul Islam of Tangail zila office arrested former panel mayor of Madhupur municipality Mehdi Hasan Manju for allegedly issuing a fake birth certificate to an adolescent girl showing her as an adult.
