Tk 500crore defamation case filed against SATV owner, anchor
Dhaka: A lawyer on Thursday filed a Tk 500 crore defamation case against Salahuddin Ahammed, owner of private television channel SATV, and its presenter, Faisal Al Mahmud, for making a defamatory statement in a programme telecasted on the channel.
Dhaka Bar lawyer Bahalul Alam Bahar filed the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayed’s court.
The plaintiff Bahalul Alam said court will issue an order in this case after he gave deposition to the court.
According to case statement, Faisal Mahmud, anchor of Late Edition, made a derogatory comment against present chief election commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda on the 6-February episode of the programme.
Awami League leader Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury and BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu were present in the programme.
The plaintiff filed the case as a citizen of Bangladesh as according to the constitution the anchor’s statement is controversial.
The case was filed seeking arrest warrant against the accused.
