British Labour Party delegates meet Khaleda Zia
Dhaka: The visiting British Labour Party delegates, led by Bangladesh-origin lawmaker Dr Rupa Huq, met Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday night and discussed bilateral issues.
The hour-long meeting that began around 8:00pm held at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office, reports UNB.
The 11-member Labour Friends of Bangladesh (LFB) delegation included three members of the British Parliament Shadow Health Minister Jonathan Ashworth, Shadow Minister for Home Affairs Dr Rupa Huq and former Minister and Chief Whip Dame Rosie Winterton.
The other members of the delegation were executive members of LFB Howard Dawber, Chair of LFB Syed Abul Bashar, General Secretary of LFB Councilor Abdul Hai and Councilor Asma Begum and some businessman.
Dr Rupa Huq’s son Rafi Huq was also a member of the delegation.
BNP sources said issues relating to mutual interests of the two countries and Bangladesh’s latest political situation were discussed at the meeting.
However, there was no briefing from either side about the parley.
BNP Secretary Ggeneral Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were present.
