Dhaka: A young man was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Tatibazar near the Kotwali police station area in old town in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased is Mohammad Sagar. Police claimed Sagar was a member of muggers’ gang. However, the law enforcers could not disclose his detail identity.

The Kotwali police Sub-inspector (SI) Akteruzzaman said the gunfight took place in Chitra Cinema’s lane at Tatibazar at about 3:00am. Sagar received bullet during the gunfight and was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him death.

The body was kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

The SI said Sagar was an accused in a case of shooting a trader in Islampur and snatching Tk 25lakh from him.

He was also wanted in several cases, said Akteruzzaman.
