Huda made CEC to help govt hold Jan-5 like polls: BNP
Dhaka: Describing Chief Election Commissioner-designate KM Nurul Huda as a genuine Awami Leaguer, BNP chairperson’s adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque on Tuesday said he has been appointed to the post to help the government hold another January 5-like election.
Speaking at a human chain programme, he also advocated for initiating a dialogue by the Prime Minister on an election-time government so that the next election can be held in credible manner with the participation of all parties, including BNP.
‘The Chief Election Commissioner and election commissioners will take oath tomorrow (Wednesday). Nurul Huda is a genuine Awami Leaguer and an authentic man of Janatar Mancha. It’s clear to BNP for what reason he has been made the CEC’, said Farroque.
As two years left for the election, the BNP leader said, the government will give the new CEC proper training by the time for holding another January 5- like election held in 2014.
Farroque, also a former opposition chief whip, alleged that President Abdul Hamid appointed the pro-Awami League people to the Commission so that they can fulfill the government’s desire.
Trinamul Nagorik Andolon, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club, demanding withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
Farroque called upon the Prime Minister to take steps for talks on the election-time supportive government as per their chairperson’s proposal for the sake of democracy.
Mentioning that no fair and credible election is possible under the newly constituted EC, he said, ‘You (PM) please don’t try to score again at an empty field. The ball is now in your court. If you want to ensure BNP’s participation in the next polls, create a scope for it. I strongly believe BNP won’t join the next general election if it is held under you.’
