Dhaka: Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Justice SK Sinha demanding removal of the statue of Greek Goddess of Justice from the Supreme Court premises.

Atikus Samad, personal secretary to the Supreme Court Registrar General, received the memorandum from a Hefazat delegation in the morning.

The statue of Greek Titaness, Themis, holding a scale and a sword was erected on the Supreme Court premises in December last.

Earlier on February 11, Hefazat demanded removal of the idol of Greek Goddess of Justice from the Supreme Court premises and urged the government to reform the country’s existing judiciary.

The demand was made at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club.

Claiming that the idol of Greek Titaness, Themis, is hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims, the Islamic outfit said the country’s people will not tolerate it.
