Massive fire at Mohammadpur slum, over 150 shanties burnt
Dhaka: At least 150 shanties were burnt as massive fire broke out at Banshbari slum in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area in the early hours of Thursday.
The fire broke out at the slum at about 4:25am. The fire fighters brought the flames under control at about 5:23am.
However, no casualty was reported yet.
The fire service officials could not confirmed the amount of damages in the fire.
Fire Service headquarters duty official Atiqur Rahman told NTV Online being informed about the fire the fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire after an hour.
The Mohammadpur police Officer-in-charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir told NTV Online the police came to know about the fire at Banshbari slum at about 4:30am.
It has been believed that the fire destroyed around 200 shanties in the slum.
The OC said the shanties in the slum are very small and made in different patterns, so they could not confirmed the precise number of damaged sheds immediately.
