DMP bans carrying firearms in Parliament area

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on carrying firearms, explosives and other harmful objects as well as holding any kind of rally and procession in the proximity of Sangsad Bhaban to ensure smooth functioning of the budget session of the 10th Parliament beginning on Monday.
According to a DMP press release issued on Friday, the imposition will come into effect on Sunday midnight and will remain in force until the prorogation of the session, also sixth session of the current parliament.
Acting DMP Commissioner Sheikh Maruf Hasan announced this under sections 28 and 29 of the DMP Ordinance (Ordinance-III/76).
The restricted areas are: Mahakhali crossing of Mymensingh road to Bangla Motor crossing, western part of Bangla Motor link road to Saarc Fountain at Karwanbazar crossing, eastern part of Panthapath to Farmgate via Green Road link road, Shyamali crossing of Mirpur road to Dhanmondi 16 (old 27) link road, Rokeya Sarani link road to Bijoy Sarani Parjatan crossing via old 9th division (airplane) crossing, eastern part of Indira road to Manik Miah Avenue’s western part and restricted area of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and all the roads and lanes in the area.
On May 11, the President summoned the budget session exercising the power bestowed upon him as per article 72 (1) of the constitution.
The 10th parliament went into its maiden session on January 25 last year while the second one (budget session) began on June 3 last, third one on September 1, fourth one on November 13 last and fifth one on January 19 this year.
