AL to face 1991’s consequence if BNP considered weak: Quader
Rajshahi: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday warned his party colleagues that Awami League will face the same fate of 1991 in the next polls if it underestimates BNP in vote politics.
“BNP doesn’t have any achievement – neither in history nor in movement. But, the party can’t be ignored in vote politics as it’ll be Awami League’s main rival in the next parliamentary elections,” he said.
Speaking at a workers’ rally, he further said, “We shouldn’t consider weak our rival. If we do so, we may face the same fate of 1991.”
Local unit of Awami League arranged the programme on Rajshahi Madrasah ground in the city.
He also suggested the Awami League leaders and activists to change their attitude and behaviour as the next general election is drawing nearer. “There’s no lack of development activities in the country, but there‘s a problem in the attitude of our leaders. Try to understand people’s eye language and read their mind.”
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, warned that people will punish through ballots during vote those who misbehave with them staying in power. “We don’t want to see any anti-people godfather in the party. We want to have popular leaders in it.”
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak were, among others, present at the rally.
