8,000 cops to secure Dhaka on Language Movement Day: DMP
Dhaka: Over 8000 police member will be deployed to ensure security of the dwellers of capital city Dhaka on the occasion of Language Movement Day, globally known as International Mother Language Day, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah.
The DMP Commissioner addressed a press conference held at Central Shaheed Minar premises at about 11:00am on Sunday over the security measures taken for the upcoming programmes to mark the Amar Ekushey, the mother language day.
Asaduzzaman Miah said a four-layer security arrangement has been ensured by the security team for the day.
He said transport movement will be restricted from Dhaka’s Fishery Building, Bakshibazar, and Chankharpool area to the Dhaka University campus area. Only vehicles with Dhaka University’s sticker can enter into the campus area.
Vehicles will be allowed to go Central Shaheed Minar through Palashi crossing and Jagannath Hall. Security team will conduct search on the main entrance of Shaheed Minar, said the police commissioner.
He said the routes of Fishery building to New Market, Doyel Chattar to Palashi crossing will be kept under CCTV (Closed-circuit television) surveillance.
Asaduzzaman Miah said additional members of police, SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics), Bomb disposal unit will be kept stand-by to face any kind of acute situation.
