Inmate dies in Chittagong jail

Chittagong: A theft case accused named Ishaq Miah on Saturday allegedly committed suicide in Chittagong’s Kotwali police custody, with family claiming that he had been murdered.
He hanged himself with his shirt in the police station bathroom on Saturday morning, claimed Kotwali police officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin.
The brother of the deceased Deen Mohammad, however, alleged that police tortured Ishaq to death.
Executive magistrate Rajib-Ul-Hasan who was present while making the viscera report said they found a black mark in his neck, and several injury marks in his forehead and beneath his chest.
Later, the body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The 40-year-old was the son of Jalal Ahmed of the village Shikalbaha in Patia. He used to work as a security guard at the Nandan Kanon office of Zahid Enterprise, a soft drinks distributor.
Police arrested Ishaq from his office on Friday night after the company manager filed a case against him for stealing cash money from the office.
