Manikganj: Miscreants attempted to kill a couple by setting fire on their house at Nayakandi village of Sadar upazila, Manikganj, in the early hours of Sunday.

The Sadar police said that miscreants put fire at the house of retired police constable Abdul Gafur Khan, in his seventies and his wife, Amena Begun, who is 60 years old. The fire damaged the house, motorcycle and several belongings. However, the couple survived from the incident.

Gafur’s daughter, Munmun Nasrin Siddique, also a local union council member, said her parents along with a relative Saddam, a class II student, were sleeping at their tin-shaded house on Saturday night.
A group of miscreants locked the main gate and set the house on fire by pouring kerosene on it at about 4:00am, said Munmun Nasrin.
She added Saddam broke the lock as Gafur woke up from the sleep and cried for help. Three of them got out of the house and survived without any injuries.

Later, the local people doused the flame immediately.

Munmun said the miscreants left some kerosene, hays, and straws on the spot, before fleeing the spot.
