Bagerhat: A cement‐laden trawler capsized in the River Panguchhi in Morelganj upazila in Begarhat early on Friday.

The Morelganj Police officer‐in‐charge Rashedul Alam said that the Bagerhat bound ‘Ma Fatema’ trawler from Mongla carrying 1,225 sacks of cement and two people, including trawler owner Shahidul Islam, sank in the river early in the morning.

Shahidul and the other man managed to swim shore but Shahidul sustained injuries.

The injured was admitted to Morelganj Upazila Health Complex.

The trawler capsized as a rope of the trawler tore due to strong current while unloading 75 sacks of cement of a trader at Morelganj Launch Ghat area, added the OC.

The fire fighters are trying to salvage the capsized trawler.
