Dhaka: At least eight people received burn injuries as a gas-cylinder of a restaurant in Old Dhaka's Lalbagh area exploded on Saturday afternoon.

They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.

"Of the eight injured, condition of five was stated critical," residential surgeon of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit Partha Sankar Paul told newsmen.

Police sources said of the eight injured two are employees of a Chinese restaurant and six others pedestrians. The injured are Sabuj, 20, Maruf, 20, Sabbir, 21, Makbul 35, Sunamuddin 50, Hazrat Ali, 50, Farhana Aktar Panna, 23 and an unidentified man aged 30, BSS Medical Correspondent reported.

Panna is a BBA student of Dhanmondir Model College and Sabuj and Maruf are employees of the restaurant while identity of others could not be known immediately.
