Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday directed law enforcement agencies to arrest the condemned fugitives in the BDR carnage case.

The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after he placed a wreath at the graves of the army officers who were killed during the BDR mutiny, at Banani Graveyard in the morning.

“Those people who were involved in the Pilkhana carnage were convicted. Even those had instigated from behind for the incident were also brought to trial,” said Asaduzzaman.

The minister said it is difficult to complete this investigation of the country's largest-ever killing case and the investigation of the incident continued. “We’ve gone a long way looking into the occurrence.”

Some 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed during the atrocious carnage at Pilkhana BDR Headquarters in the capital on February 25, 2009.

Some 152 people were sentenced to death and 423 others to different jail terms and 277 acquitted in the country's largest-ever killing case.

Among the convicts, 161 people, including late BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and local Awami League leader Torab Ali, were sentenced to life term imprisonment while 262 others to different jail terms starting from three months to 19 years.

Besides, a total of 5,926 BDR personnel were sentenced to different jail terms ranging from four months to seven years in the 57 mutiny cases.
