The High Court on Monday asked authorities concerned to stop production and selling of the 28 pharmaceutical companies within 72 hours for producing low quality medicine.

A HC bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order following a petition filed by Human Rights Peace for Bangladesh, reports UNB.

Advocate Manzil Morshed stood for the petitioner.

The 28 companies are — EMICO Pharmaceuticals Ltd, EZTek Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Bengal Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Benham Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Central Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Decent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Dr Teams Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Guobang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, Greenland Pharmaceuticals Ltd, iNova Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mac’s Drugs Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Medimet Laboratories Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Modern Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mystic Pharmaceuticals Ltd, National Laboratories Pharmaceuticals  Ltd, Organic Health Care Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Oyster Pharma Pvt. Ltd, Premier Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Prime Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Shima Pharmaceuticals Ltd, White Horse Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mamtaz Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Unique Pharmaceuticals Ltd, United Chemicals Pharmaceuticals Ltd, FNF Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Techno Drugs Limited Unit-1, Techno Drugs Limited Unit-2, and Techno Drugs Limited Unit-3.

Earlier, on February 13, the High Court upheld its earlier order that had asked 20 pharmaceutical companies and 14 antibiotics manufacturers to stop production and supply and withdraw all of their medicines which have been found to be of low quality.

The High Court ordered 34 pharmaceutical companies to stop production on August 8, last year.

Advocate Manzil Morshed filed the petition on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, responding to a report, titled ‘Low quality medicines of 34 companies still exist in market’, published by vernacular daily Samakal on June 28.

The writ petition was filed with the HC seeking its directives to revoke the licenses of 20 pharmaceutical companies and 14 antibiotics manufacturers for their failure to produce quality medicines.
