Writ plea filed to withdraw transport strike in 24 hrs

Dhaka: A Supreme Court lawyer on Wednesday filed a petition with High Court seeking the withdrawal of the countrywide indefinite transport strike within 24 hours.
Supreme Court lawyer Monzil Morshed filed the writ petition challenging the legality of the transport strike enforced by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, protesting the life term imprisonment of a bus driver in a case filed for a road accident that left five people killed.
An HC bench, comprising Justice Syed Mohammad Dastgir Hossain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan, is likely to hear the petition in the afternoon.
The nationwide strike entered the second day on Wednesday, causing immense sufferings passengers and hitting the business sector hard.
