Dhaka: A lawyer submitted a letter seeking the resignation of Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan to President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand sent the letter to the president and prime minister through post office at about 1:00pm on Wednesday.

In the letter, Yunus Ali claimed the minister is involved with the countrywide transport strike.

The letter says the decision of enforcing transport strike was taken at Shahjahan Khan’s residence. As a minister, he could not support such strike which brought sufferings for people. The minister violated the constitution and dishonoured the vows he took earlier.

Yunus Ali said according to the constitution Shahajahan Khan cannot hold the minister’s post after his involvement with the anti-public strike. The lawyer requested president and prime minister take steps against Shahjahan Khan.

The nationwide strike entered the second day on Wednesday, causing immense sufferings passengers and hitting the business sector hard.

In Dhaka, no inter‐district bus left Gabtoli, Mohakhali or Sayedabad bus terminals so far today while very few buses were seen plying the city streets.

On 13 August in 2011, Tareque and Mishuk along with three others were killed in a tragic road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior upazila of Manikganj while returning to Dhaka from Manikganj after visiting a filming location.

The accident happened when a microbus carrying the two celebrities collided with a bus on the highway.
