Low-income people to have 4494 plots, 4511 flats: PM

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said in Parliament the government has been developing some 4,494 plots and constructing 4,511 flats for low-income group people for addressing their accommodation crisis.
"Development of residential plots and flats is going on in 18 districts across the country under 45 projects," she said replying to a starred tabled question from treasury bench member Enamul Haque (Rajshahi-4).
Sheikh Hasina said the government has been implementing a number of projects to increase government servants’ housing facilities to 40 percent from 8 percent to ease their accommodation crisis.
The National Housing Authority has handed over some 902 residential flats to allottees at Lalmatia and Mirpur in the city, she informed the House, adding, "The Public Works Department has undertaken a programme to construct 4,724 flats for all employees."
As part of this, the Leader of the House said, some 448 flats are being constructed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar for officers and employees of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.
Besides, she said some 456 flats will be built in Azimpur government colony area in six 20-storey buildings while 532 more in Motijheel government colony in four 20-storey buildings.
