BNP wants to see Teesta deal signed
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman on Monday said the party would get hurt if the Teesta water sharing deal is not signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
‘Modi is coming to Bangladesh. We hope this time Teesta water sharing deal will be inked. We want the reflection of the optimism of the country’s civil society. If the deal is signed, we have no objection to greet the government. But we would get hurt if the deal isn’t inked,’ he said.
The BNP leader said this while addressing a discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Sechchasebak Dal at National Press Club marking the 34th death anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Noman said, ‘According to media reports, BNP has turned pro-India. We want to say BNP is a liberal democratic party. We always do positive politics. We speak for people’s interest.’
The BNP leader hoped that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banarjee will play a positive role to sign the deal.
He alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched to introduce fascist rule like that of Ayub and Ershad in the name of democracy and development.
‘The movement of people will continue. They’ll take revenge on the repressive acts of the government,’ he added.
