Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Thursday commuted death sentence of a murder convict to life imprisonment.

Al-Amin was condemned to death for killing Shahidul Islam, a father, for protesting harassment of his daughter, reports BSS.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim today passed the order, disposing of a jail appeal lodged by Al-Amin.

Shahidul Islam was hacked to death by stalkers of his daughter on April 13, 2006, as he protested against the offenders. A Kishoreganj court on May 8, 2012, sentenced Al-Amin to death, acquitting two others from the charges.

The matter subsequently came to the High Court for hearing on death reference and jail appeal.
