Madaripur: A Juba League leader and a shopkeeper were killed in a factional clash among two groups of ruling Awami league (AL) at Kutubpur of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were Juba League Kutubpur union unit organising secretary Arshed Madbar and shopkeeper Shajahan Dorani.

The Shibchar police said the clash took place between two groups of Awami League in the area at about 6:00am.
Additional police have been deployed as panic spread in the area following the clash.

Local people said Awami League leader and Arshed’s elder brother Atique Madbor and former union council chairman Ibrahim Sikder had a dispute for long time.
Police said Atique Madbor is youth and sport secretary of local Awami League while Ibrahim is a member of the party and vice-president of Kutubpur union Awami League.

Kutubpur union chairman BM Manowar Hossain Bepari said supporters of Atique Madbor were invited to an Idris Howlader’s residence on Monday, which created arguments between the supporters of both of the leaders.

Ibrahim’s supporters cordoned Arshed Madbor while he went to the shop of Shajahan Dorani on Tuesday morning. The miscreants shot Shajahan to death. Later they shot Arshed after taking him into a field and left him into a pond.

Local people recovered Arshed from the water and took him to Madaripur Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
