Bogra hospital interns continue strike for 3rd day

Interns at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra continued their work abstention for the third consecutive day on Saturday, causing suffering to the patients.
Earlier, they went on the strike on Thursday after the Health Ministry suspended four of their fellows for six months over the assault of a patient’s relative, reports UNB.
The four suspended interns are Dr Nurjahan Binte Islam Naz, Dr Md Ashiquzzaman Asif, Dr Md Kutub Uddin and Dr MA Al Mamun.
Talking to the UNB, Kutub Uddin, spokesperson of the demonstrating intern doctors, hinted that they would continue their ongoing protest programme until the authorities cancel the suspension order.
The unrest ensued when a group of inter doctors of the hospital beat an attendant of a patient, following an altercation on February 9.
According to hospital sources, Alauddin Sarkar, 60, of Konagati in Sirajganj, was admitted to the hospital at midnight. Soon after his admission, Alauddin’s son Rauf locked in an altercation with an intern over switching on the fan.
At one stage of the argument, the intern doctor called his colleagues, took Rauf to a separate room and beat him up.
Later, the agitators locked the emergency unit of the hospital up and went on an indefinite strike, citing that they were insulted by the relatives of Alauddin.
A probe body led by additional secretary Habibur Rahman was formed to investigate the incident on February 23 and the offenders were given punishment following the submission of the probe report.
