Noakhali: A local Awami League leader was shot dead in an attack by miscreants at Undarchar village in Sadar upazila of Noakhali early on Sunday.

The victim is Abul Hashem, in his forties, president of ward No-4 of Undarchar union unit of AL and son of Abu Taher, a resident of the same village.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on the house of Hashem at the dead of night and opened fire, leaving him injured.

Hashem was taken to Noakhali General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered the body and took it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
