Police will not sit and watch: DIG

Police will not sit and watch anyone killing people and destroying private property, said Dhaka Range police Deputy Inspector General SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman in Gazipur on Saturday.
He was addressing an exchange of views organised at the Gazipur Police Lines in the wake of ongoing countrywide violence and destruction during the blockade imposed by 20-Party Alliance.
‘They are trying to wage a civil war and destroy the country. We will join the second Independence War if they force us to. But, we will save our people,’ said Nuruzzaman
The DIG said police have guns to protect public safety and property.
‘Should we sit and watch when anyone is trying to kill you?’ said Nuruzzaman rhetorically before answering himself that police would do anything deemed necessary. Shooting them is not enough, destroy their entire family,' he added.
Presided over by Gazipur police superintendent Harun-or-Rashid, the programme was addressed, among others, by Gazipur Awami League general secretary Azmat Ullah Khan and freedom fighter Kazi Mozammed Haque.
