Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail for one month to national cricketer Arafat Sunny in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Mohamamd Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order following a petition filed by Sunny’s lawyer Jewel Ahmed.

Earlier, on 1 February, Nasrin Sultana, who claims to be Sunny’s wife, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Women

Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Court‐4 against Sunny and his mother Nargis Akter.

After recording Nasrin’s statement, Judge SM Rezanur Rahman of the tribunal asked the officer‐in‐charge of Mohammadpur Police Station to submit a report on it after an investigation.

According to the statement, Sunny’s mother Nargis Akter along with some men beat Nasrin up on a road near Mohammadpur Police station.

Besides, two more cases were filed against Sunny and his mother on charge of demanding Tk 20 lakh as dowry and under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on 23 January and 22 January, respectively.
