Jhenidah:  A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishment of dominance at Monoharpur graveyard of Kaliganj in the district Tuesday night.

The deceased was Bipul Mandal, 24, General Secretary of the Union Jubo League and son of Bazlu Mandal, resident of Kaligonj.

Liton, the incumbent UP member of Shimla-Rokonpur union had been in a long standing dispute with Bajlu, the defeated UP member over establishing dominance in the area, said Aminul Islam, Officer in Charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

The supporters of the two groups had an altercation around 12:30am, which led to a fierce clash leaving Bipul dead on the spot and five others injured.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Additional policemen have been deployed to avert further trouble.

The body was sent to the Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
