Mijarul Quayes’ body arrives; first janaza at MoFA
Dhaka: The body of former Foreign Secretary and Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil Mohamed Mijarul Quayes arrived in Dhaka shortly after Monday midnight.
‘I brought our Ambassador [back] home,’ Deputy Chief of Mission at the Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia Shumona Iqbal wrote on her Facebook wall soon after their arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Shumona and family members of Quayes accompanied the body which arrived around 12:16am.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the late envoy will be held at 8:30am on Monday on the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka.
His second namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan 2 after Asr prayers, said his colleagues.
Quayes will be buried at Banani Graveyard on Tuesday.
His body is likely to be taken to Central Shaheed Minar at 10:00am so that his well-wishers, relatives and colleagues can pay their last respects to him.
Quayes breathed his last at a hospital in Brasilia, Brazil at 6:00am (BST) on 11 March at the age of 57.
He served as a Foreign Secretary at the ministry during 2009-12.
Quayes is survived by wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his premature death.
