Feeling embarrassed at their activities, family members of a suspected militant couple, who along with their child and two other militants were killed during a special drive at Premtala in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong, refused to receive their bodies.

‘They’ve humiliated us with their activities. So, we won’t receive their bodies,’ said Muzaffar Ahmed, father of slain militant Kamal Uddin, while talking to reporters at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday noon, reports UNB.

On March 16, four suspected militants, including the couple, and their six-year-old boy were killed during a special raid by joint forces on a militant hideout at Premtala in Sitakunda. Two SWAT members were also injured during the gunfight.

Two of the deceased are Kamal and his wife Jobaida hailing from Naikkhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district while their child and the rest two militants could not be known yet.

Muzaffar, Jobaida’s father Nurul Alam and her brother Ziaul Haque came to the CMCH morgue and identified the two bodies.

Meanwhile, CMCH sources said the bodies of the militants will be handed over to Anjuman Mufidul Islam for burial as the family members refused to receive those.

Nure Alam Mia, superintendent of Police of the district, said they talked to the families of the militant couple who seemed mentally disrupted as they could not understand how they got involved in militancy.

Family sources said the couple along with their child had remained missing for the last 7-8 months.

Besides, police recovered a bomb and 11 jell bombs kept inside a quilt from the Premtala militant hideout on Monday. With this, a total of 37 bombs have so far been recovered from the militant den and those were defused later, said Mozammel Haque, inspector of Sitakunda Police Station.
