Bargaining behind the scene over Teesta issue: Minister
Dhaka: Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on Friday said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Dhaka will include exchange of instruments of ratification of the land boundary agreement, signing of several other deals, protocols and negotiation memorandums.
The deals, protocols and memorandums include trade agreements, water-protocol, coastal ship movement, co-operation for product’s standard, cultural exchange, coastal safety, and prevention of human trafficking and economic co-operation.
The foreign minister while briefing the media on Modi visit said the Teesta issue is being discussed behind the scene urging all to have patience for getting a concrete outcome.
‘Diplomacy does not take place publicly’, he said.
Mahmood Ali, however, made it clear that the Teesta issue will not be discussed during Modi's visit.
He said Bangladesh will mainly focus on connectivity issues.
There is less possibility of a meeting between Narendra Modi and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia during the Indian prime minister’s visit, added the foreign minister.
He said Modi will talk with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid during his 6-7 June’s visit. The Indian prime minister will also give a speech at a conference comprising civil society members at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
He will also inaugurate Kolkata-Agartala and Dhaka-Guwahati bus services, will resume Khulna-Mongla and Kulaura-Shahbajpur rail links, and open the Rabindrabhaban at Kuthibari in Shilaidah.
