5 ‘Neo JMB men’ arrested in Dhaka
Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five suspected members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)(Sarwar-Tamim group), including its two engineers of IT section, from different areas in the city on Monday night.
The arrestees are Oliuzzaman alias Oli, 28, Anwarul Alam, 29, Saleh Ahmed Shish, 22, Abul Kashem, 27, and Md Mohon alias Mohsin, 20.
The elite force members also recovered some explosives, explosive making substances, jihadi books, fake pistol and guns along with cash Tk 3.14 lakh from their possessions.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-10 conducted a drive in Badda area in the morning and arrested Oli, Anwarul Alam and Saleh Ahmed Shish, said sources at the Rab Headquarters.
Based on their statement, the elite force members arrested Abul Kashem and Md Mohon alias Mohsin from Saidabad bus stand at noon.
During interrogation, Oli reportedly revealed that he had passed from Buet’s Chemical Engineering department in 2012 and joined in a multi-national company.
Anwarul was also passed from Buet in 2012 and now he has been teaching in a coaching centre, said police.
Abul Kashem, a madrasa teacher of Mirpur-13, Saleh, a student of Mirpur Bangla College, also joined the band militant group through Oli. Kashem passed ‘Dakhil’ exam from Mirpur Senpara Baitul Mamur Madarasa in 2012.
The arrested militants reportedly revealed that they are members of a ‘cell’ that was assigned to carry out attack on government’s establishments.
