Road crashes kill 12

Dhaka: Twelve people were killed and 33 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sirajganj, Moulvibazar, Manikganj, and Natore on Friday.

Four people, including an army man, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joypura bus stand in Dhamrai upazila on the outskirts of the capital.

Three of the deceased are Obaidul Haq from Senbag in Noakhali district, Shamsur Rahman from Ratanpur in Satkhira district and Shahidul Islam, an army man of Rangamati East Bengal Regiment, Bandukchhari in Rangamati.

Dhamrai Police sub-inspector Abdul Jalil said the Satkhira-bound ‘Saudia Paribahan’ bus from Chittagong skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch after colliding head-on with the truck coming from the opposite direction at about 1:15 am, leaving three people dead on the spot and 21 others injured.

The injured were rushed to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared a woman dead.

The truck driver managed to flee with his vehicle.

In Sirajganj, Three people were killed and seven others injured when a microbus hit a human hauler at Hatikumrul Golchattar on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in Solonga upazila.

The deceased are China, Rajab Ali of Borogoja village in Solonga upazila, and Rehana of Kamarkhand upazila.

Hatikumrul highway police officer-in-charge BM Emdadul Haque said the microbus hit the human hauler as the microbus driver lost control over the steering, leaving two passengers of the human hauler dead on the spot and eight others injured.

The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Rajab Ali dead.

In Moulvibazar, Three people were killed and three others injured as a car hit a road side tree on Moulvibazar-Srimongol road in Sirajnagar area of Srimongol upazila on early in the morning.

The deceased are Raju Ahmed, Sabuj Miah, Arif Hossain, residents of the upazila.

The accident took place in the area in the early morning while they were returning from the shrine of Shahjalal(R), leaving three people dead on the spot, said Srimongol Police sub-inspector Mohammad Delwar Hossain.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar hospital morgue.

In Natore, two people were killed and two others injured in two separate road accidents in Sadar upazila and Boraigram upazila in the early morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

In Manikganj, Habiba Siddique Tithi, resident of South Daniya of Dhaka, was killed and his daughter was injured as a bus hit them in Paturia ferry ghat area of Shibalaya upazila in the morning.
