Satkhira: Forest robbers kidnapped two fishermen from Baikari canal in the Sundarbans under Satkhira range early on Friday.

The kidnapped fishermen are Foni Mandal, son of Tara Mandal of Bhotkhali village of Shyamnagar upazila and Kalam Sardar, son of Abdul Sardar of Munshiganj union.

Karim Molla, one of the fishermen who escaped the kidnapping, said, they went inside the Sundarbans with the permission of Kaikhali forest office where a gang of forest robbers picked up two of them and demanded Tk 1lakh for their release.

Officer‐in‐charge of Shyamnagar police station Mostafizur Rahman said family members have not yet informed anything regarding the kidnapping. When informed, necessary steps would be taken, he added.
