5 killed in road crashes

Five people were killed and four others injured in road accidents in Chapainawabganj and Bagerhat on Saturday.

Three people were killed as a truck crashed into a motorbike carrying them in Amnura Kendul area of Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj.

The deceased are Mohammad Rafiq, Nayan, and Nure Alam Siddique.

Sadar Police sub-inspector Jahangir Alam said the accident took place when the truck hit the motorcycle on Amnura-Godagari road in the area, leaving Nure Alam and Faruk dead on the spot and Nayan critically injured.

Nayan was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.

In Bagerhat, two people, including a college girl, were killed and four others injured when a bus hit an engine-run rickshaw van and a motorcycle in Bishwa Road More area on the Khulna-Mawa highway in Fakirhat upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased are Monalisa Khatun, a second year student of Fakirhat Kazi Ajhar Ali College, Obaidul Islam of Kaligachhi village in Chitalmari upazila of the district.

Bagerhat Katakhali Highway Police officer-in-charge Abdul Mannan Faraji said a Khulna-bound bus from Chitalmari first hit a motorcycle in the area as the bus driver lost control over the steering at about 9:15 am, leaving the biker seriously injured.

Then the bus hit a rickshaw van in the area, leaving five passengers of the van critically injured.

Monalisa and Obaidul died on way to Fakirhat upazila health complex.

Of the four injured, two were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police also seized the bus but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.

A case was filed in this connection.
