‘We are becoming a single state’
Dhaka: Bangladesh and its neighbouring countries are becoming a single state, said State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid at an agreement signing programme in Dhaka on Saturday.
‘We, along with our neighbouring states, will work together like brothers during disasters and crisis,’ said the minister.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) on Saturday inked two mega power project deals with India’s Adani Group and Reliance Power with a view to generating 3600MG electricity.
‘For last forty years there was a barrier of conflict between our neighbouring and friendly states. I think today that has started disappearing through various activities. Now we are becoming a single state,’ he added.
The state minister said that they had tried to import electricity from Nepal and Bhutan. But that would take at least eight to ten years.
‘We will need help from our Indian brothers to collect electricity from Nepal or Bhutan. But now we have achieved a progress. The greatest achievement is the 500MW power that we are taking from India. In next December, we are going to seek 100MG electricity from Tripura,’ he added.
The programme was attended by power minister secretary, PDB officials and executives from Reliance and Adani groups.
