Dhaka: Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque on Sunday said militant groups do not have any heavy arms to stand against law enforcers.

“As explosives are available, militants are using those but they don’t have heavy arms,” said the IGP while speaking at an international workshop ‘Transnational Crimes: SAARC perspective’ at the Police Staff College in Dhaka.

He said the militants have bomb-making manuals from which they make explosives after taking primary trainings. “They collect explosive substances from inside the country and gels from abroad for making explosives. We’re working to stop militant activities in the country,” said the IGP.

Replying to a question, he said the law enforcers could not arrest the militants alive as they killed themselves by blasting suicide bombs.

Responding to another question about the number of militant dens across the country, the IGP said they have no accurate list of militant hideouts. Based on information, law enforcers and detectives conduct raids on the dens.

He urged the country’s people to help the law enforcers as it is not possible for them alone to root out militants from the country.
