Sandwip boat capsize death toll now 14
Chittagong: The bodies of three more people, who had gone missing after a boat capsize in the Sandwip Channel on Sunday, was recovered from the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, raising the death toll from the incident to 14.
The three deceased were Master Osman, Tanjib Ahsan and Masudur Rahman.
Earlier in the day, rescuers retrieved 11 more bodies from the Sandwip Channel, said Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Golam Zakaria.
Some seven passengers are still missing, he said.
The local administration has provided Tk 25,000 to the family members of the deceased and handed over the bodies to their families.
At least 25 passengers went missing after the boat sank in the channel of the Bay of Bengal near Guptachhara dock amid bad weather on Sunday evening.
A five-member probe body, headed by UNO Golam Zakaria, was formed to investigate the incident on Monday and the probe body was asked to submit the report within seven working days.
