Chittagong: The bodies of four more people, who had gone missing after a boat capsize in the Sandwip Channel on Sunday, was recovered from the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, raising the death toll from the incident to 18.

Four bodies were found floating near the Guptaghat area of the upazila in the early hours of Wednesday. Later, the rescuers rescued the bodies, said the upazila executive officer Golam Jakaria.

He said the relatives of the bodies identified them. They are Anwar Hossain, a school teacher, minors Sadif Saad and his sister Neha. However, identity of another deceased could not be known.

The local administration has provided Tk 25,000 to the family members of the deceased and handed over the bodies to their families.

At least 25 passengers went missing after the boat sank in the channel of the Bay of Bengal near Guptachhara dock amid bad weather on Sunday evening.

A five-member probe body, headed by UNO Golam Zakaria, was formed to investigate the incident on Monday and the probe body was asked to submit the report within seven working days.
