Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday filed a case against five people, including four bank officials, for swindling out money from a private commercial bank.

ACC deputy director Sheikh Abdus Salam filed the case against them with Shahbagh Police Station in Dhaka, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told news agency UNB.

The case was filed against first vice presidents of United Commercial Bank Limited (UCBL) Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed and Moshiuddin Hossain, its assistant vice president Saleh Ahmed Bhuiyan, vice president Anwar Hossain Patan, and managing director of Alampana Bangladesh Limited Mohammad Asad.

According to the case statement, Alampana Bangladesh Limited constructed a 15-storey Alampana Bhaban at Segunbagicha in the capital through corruption and forging its design, and the building owner sold same flats to several buyers.

Mohammad Asad constructed the building on a government land by taking Tk 7.7 crore from UCBL’s Shantinagar branch showing fake documents. But, the bank officials did not check the documents, paving the path for swindling out the money.

Asad also took Tk 1.83 crore from four flat owners, who brought flats, but did not hand over these flats to them since the flats earlier sold to other people.

The case statement said all the accused in collusion with each other plundered a total of Tk 9.53 crore.
