SC upholds HC order staying Sylhet mayor’s suspension
Dhaka: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a High Court order that halted the government order suspending Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
Chamber Judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, said Ariful’s lawyer Abdul Haque Kwafi.
Now, there is no legal bar to Ariful for taking charge again as the SCC Mayor, he added.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court stayed the government order that suspended Ariful following his writ petition.
On Sunday, the government suspended Ariful three hours after he returned to his office with court clearance staying a previous suspension order as he was accused in a criminal case.
