Delhi’s Park Street to be renamed after Bangabandhu
New Delhi: As a friendly gesture, India has decided to name Park Street here after Bangladesh’s founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The New Delhi Municipal Council on Thursday approved its renaming a day before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrives in India on a four‐day visit.
The NDMC came up with the decision showing a ‘friendly gesture’, Indian media reported.
‘It has been decided to rename Park Street after the founder of Bangladesh — Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman —ahead of Sheikh Hasina’s visit. This is like a friendly gesture as India shares cordial relations with Bangladesh,’ a senior municipal council official was quoted by Indian media as saying.
The decision was made through a circular motion as a council meeting could not be convened, according to The Hindu.
