Eight killed in road accidents in Mymensingh and Gopalganj
Police said on Saturday eight people were killed in road accidents on Saturday in two districts of the country.
Five young men were killed and 12 people injured in separate road accidents in Phulpur and Bhaluka upazilas of Mymensingh on Saturday morning.
In Phulpur upazila, three young men were killed and two others injured in a collision between a bus and a pick-up van at Bhaitkandi in the morning.
Phulpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Ali Ahmed Mollah said the bus collided with the van early, leaving Hridoy, 25, Shahid, 30, Idris, 35, dead on the spot and two others injured.
He said the injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMC).
In Bhaluka upazila, two young men were killed and 10 passengers injured as a bus overturned on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Hazirbazar around 8am.
The bus turned turtle on the highway as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two passengers Ripon, 22, and Rasel, 25, dead on the spot and 10 others injured, said Mamun-Or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police Station.
The injured were taken to the hospital.
Three people were killed and 20 others injured as a truck overturned at Gangarampur in Maksudpur upazila of Gopalganj on Friday night.
Police said the Bhola-bound fry-laden truck from Barisal overturned around 10:30pm as the truck driver lost its control over the steering, leaving Dulal Bepari, 50, and Gias Uddin, 28, hailing from Bhola, dead on the spot.
The injured were taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex in Madaripur where doctors declared Billal Gazi, 32, dead.
