HC stays DU order suspending teacher
Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday stayed for six months a Dhaka University (DU) order suspending its Development Studies department teacher Prof Dr Reazul Haque.
An HC bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order following a writ petition.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why the suspension order without citing any reason should not be declared illegal and unlawful.
DU Vice Chancellor, Pro-VCs, Registrar, Dean of the Social Sciences Faculty and Chairman of the Development Studies department were asked to reply to the rule within four weeks.
Earlier on February 22, the university authority suspended Prof Reazul in a syndicate meeting without mentioning the reason. He received the suspension letter on March 7.
Later, he filed the writ on Thursday last challenging the legality of the order.
