Khaleda sits with BNP policymakers
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia sat in a meeting with her party’s standing committee members tonight (Monday night) to discuss the country’s latest political situation and the Prime Minister’s India visit, and work out the party’s next course of action
The meeting began around 9:40pm at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office with Khaleda in the chair.
A BNP standing committee member said they will mainly discuss the deals Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed with India on Saturday, reports UNB.
He said they will also decide at the meeting whether BNP will announce any action programme against the defence MoUs signed with the neighbouring country.
Besides, the BNP leader said they will talk about a wide range of issues, including the country’s law and order, human right situation and party’s organisational activities.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will brief the media about the outcome of the meeting on Tuesday, said Khaleda’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
Bangladesh and India on Saturday signed 36 bilateral documents, covering diverse areas of cooperation, including economic defence cooperation, power and peaceful use of nuclear energy, after official talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
BNP leaders have been particularly opposing the defence-related MoUs signed by the two countries, saying they will put the country’s independence and sovereignty at stake.
