HC confirms death sentence of 4 Rajon murder convicts
Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday upheld the death sentence of four convicts in a case filed over the killing of 13-year-old boy Rajon in Sylhet in 2015.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order.
The court, however, commuted the life term imprisonment of Nur Miah to six months' jail.
The four death row convicts are Qamrul Islam, Chowkidar Moyna Miah alias Baro Moyna, Taj Uddin Badal and fugitive Zakir Hossain Pavel.
On March 12, the bench fixed April 11 to deliver its verdict on the death reference and appeals in the Rajon killing case.
Earlier, on January 30, the High Court started hearing the death reference and appeals of the condemned convicts of the case.
Sylhet Metropolitan and Sessions Judge's Court handed down the death penalty to four people, including Saudi expatriate Quamrul Islam, for killing Rajon on November 8, 2015.
On July 8, 2015, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video site Youtube, triggering a widespread outcry.
The death reference of Rajon killing case were sent to the HC on November 10, 2015.
