Al-haj Mosaddak Ali exempted from ACC's baseless charge
Dhaka: The appellate division of Bangladesh Supreme Court sustained the verdict of releasing International Television Channel Limited (NTV) Chairman and Managing Director Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali given by the High Court on a case filed on baseless charge by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
A four-member bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Tuesday rejected the appeal plea placed by ACC.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain was the lawyer for Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali while Sarwar Ahmed was the lawyer for ACC.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain told NTV Online this verdict proves the case was filed on baseless charges by ACC against Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali.
Earlier, on 22 May 2013 High Court exempted Al-haj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali after he appealed against a verdict in a case filed against him in 2007 in a lower court, which accused Mosaddak Ali and sentenced him a five-year imprisonment and Tk 5 lakh and 35 thousand penalty and one year imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
ACC appealed against the High Court verdict. On Tuesday appellate division sustained the High Court verdict after completion of hearing sessions.
